Semantic Sketching: Navigating Emotions Through Artmaking
LIMITED
Thursday October 22, 2026 3:00pm - 3:50pm EDT
Limited Capacity seats available
What do you do when a student enters the art classroom with big feelings they are struggling to regulate? Have them make art about it! This workshop explores three stories where elementary-aged students used artmaking techniques to work through their emotional state in the art classroom, including techniques such as ‘angry scribbles’ and ‘containment folding’. Participants will get to try out these artmaking techniques during this workshop and leave with a resource on how to implement this in their own classroom.

The Art of ACEOS
LIMITED
Friday October 23, 2026 9:00am - 10:50am EDT
Limited Capacity seats available
In my workshop, we will explore the ACEO (Artist Card, Editions, and Originals). While the artist trading card has been around for a while, the demand for human made, original artwork has risen in the face of AI and an increasingly digital world. Some artists are leaning into, and even making their entire livelihood of of ACEOs especially in a time of financial hardship. We will talk about the commonly accepted “rules” of ACEOs, how they are sold on the internet, talk about ways to implement this into an art class, and we will even make our own to trade with others at the end of the workshop.

Participants will leave with adaptable strategies for using visual analysis, discussion, reflection, and artmaking to make critical media literacy feel relevant in the art room.
